Like standard Marine Infantry during the rule of the Terran Confederacy, Firebats were typically "culturally challenged persons" resocialised by the Confederate Government. Outfitted with the CMC-660 Heavy Combat Suit and equipped with arm mounted Plasma-based Perdition Flame Throwers, they served as assault troopers in the various Terran Militias. Although limited in range, the flame throwers cause considerable damage to any target caught within the stream of fire. The CMC-660 Heavy Combat Suit provided additional protection from heat and flame, although they are significantly heavier than the CMC-300/400 Powered Combat Suits Marines. Additionally, the CMC-660 may be upgraded with the "Stimpack" in-field chemical delivery system just like the Marine equivalent.
[edit] StarCraft II Unit
The Firebat does not appear in StarCraft II Multiplayer. It may however be available in the Single Player game and through the Map Editor.

[edit] StarCraft I Unit
The Firebat deals concussive damage, thus they have trouble killing the heavier, stronger units such as Zerg Ultralisk or Protoss Dragoons. The Firebat is also unable to attack air units.
They are best used when tanking a swarm of Zerglings or Zealots, where they can use their Stimpack ability to make quick work of the enemy force.
Because the Firebats attack is considered to be "melee", they are one of the few options available to the Terran when up against the Defiler's Dark Swarm, and make excellent support units for the standard Marine and Medic combo.

[edit] Development
During the early development stages of Starcraft II, the Firebat received an increased attack and hit point bonus and became a Tier 2 unit produced from the Factory.
They have since been removed in early January '08 as their role is now filled by the Jackal. They will appear in the map editor, but will not be available in the multiplayer aspect of the final release of StarCraft II.
