The Hive Queen is the Zerg breed that has gone through the most changes since the Brood War, and is now one of the most important units of the Zerg Swarm. Instead of being a "nusiance" unit of the Zerg armies, it's now the main defensive unit, easily transporting itself between Zerg Hive Clusters.

One big difference is that she no longer is mutated from Larva, but is birthed directly from the Hatchery. She also relieves the Drones of mutating into Creep Colonies, and simply lays eggs that does the same, including the automated defence buildings of the Zerg who now can attack both land and air.

There is a debate whether or not she has turned into a "Hero" unit, like in WarCraft III, and there are certain similarities...
