Neocrisis have posted a brief video comparing StarCraft to Dawn of War, primarily showing similarities in appearance between the games:

If anyting, Starcraft is "inspired" by Dawn of war, which is a Games Workshop franchise that existed before the development of SC.

Well, I wouldn't say that. I would say it's inspired by Warhammer 40k, among other influences. SC is a melting pot of a dozen different styles meshed together. The predominant WH40K inspiration is ofc the Space Marine / Marine likeness.

Well its just how you look at it I guess. Early iterations of Starcraft 1 got labelled: Warcraft in Space which suggests something quite different ;)

The Thor reminds me more of Microsoft's MechWarrior franchise than the DoW mech. But thats just me
